This unit is a story about a crew on the ship Mimi, a research boat that identifies humpback whales. Students will learn the story structure, media literacy components and review habitats, food chains, adaptive structures while studying ocean life. There are 13 episodes and each is followed by a scientific segment called Expeditions.
Each student received a reading text and they will be responsible for it. Unfortunately they are out of print and to replace them they are $32. Please look after them. Students may take their text books and black duo-tangs home as they will need them to complete assignments. They MUST have them here at school each day to be able complete and take up daily assignments. I will post the sheets that need to completed each day below. Also note, when students are absent, they may watch an episode on You Tube at home. Please try not read and watch episodes ahead as this is also a media literacy study.
I will call upon students each day to bring their completed work to me to be conferenced and checked. Parents will know that their child has completed the assignment successfully as the page will have a sticker. Keep focused and keep together and it should be smooth sailing.
